 Public Works Update
 Mar 29, 2006
Construction Projects:
New sidewalk construction project in the 2006 Transportation Bond is now substantially complete, with just some punch list items and final site cleanup work left to wrap up:
DeKalb Industrial Way, on the east side, from Lawrenceville Highway to North Decatur Road.

In the HOST sidewalk program, Galaxy Construction was given a Notice to Proceed with filling gaps in the sidewalks along Dresden Drive from Thompson Road to Apple Valley Road. There are some new developments installing some sidewalks in that area, and the District 2 HOST funds from a few years ago earmarked about $250,000 to fill in the gaps. Dresden Drive is also on the County resurfacing list, and the resurfacing will be coordinated with the sidewalk construction, with all the work wrapping up in April 2006.

There are several Public Information Meetings coming up in the next month for Transportation Bond projects:

District 2 -
Briarcliff Road at North Druid Hills Road intersection improvements, Thursday, April 20, 6 pm to 7:30 pm, DeKalb branch library, 2775 Briarcliff Road.

The first two projects in the Governor's Fast Forward signal synchronization program for DeKalb County are 68% complete: District 2: $800,000 project to upgrade the signals on Briarcliff Road (S.R. 42); the contract completion date for these projects is April 30, 2006.

Other DOT-funded projects on schedule to bid in 2006:

Lawrenceville Highway at I-285 interchange reconstruction has been placed on the May 2006 letting schedule by GDOT; this project is in the final stages of the right-of-way phase.

The Methane Gas to Electricity project at the Landfill is underway and on schedule; the contractor has ordered the generators, which are the critical path issue. The Georgia EPD is holding a Question and Answer session and Public Hearing on the air permit for the generators on Thursday, April 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Gresham Recreation Center.

Environmental Quality:
The Sanitation Division's subscription curbside recycling program now has over 7,500 households participating. The Sanitation staff, Amber Greer with Keep DeKalb Beautiful, and public education specialist Andrew Sullivan are continuing to work with citizen volunteers, and neighborhood associations to promote the benefits of the program.
