Smoking Vote a Disappointment

The primary mission of government is to protect the “health, safety and welfare” of its constituents, so the good health of DeKalb County’s citizens should be one of the Board of Commissioners’ (BOC) highest priorities. That’s what makes the BOC’s September 13, 2011 decision to vote down a proposal to ban smoking in all public places, including parks and all businesses, disheartening.

Making the Tough Call

It was a classic example of being stuck between a rock and a hard place. In the last official meeting of the Board of Commissioners (BOC) before the July 15 deadline to finalize DeKalb County's millage rate, I was asked to vote on a mid-year budget proposal.

Commissioner Rader Update

The county's budget process, as discussed in recent updates, has made incremental improvements this year. The process is still a work in progress in order to become transparent and responsive to DeKalb County citizens.

Administration's Proposal a Step Forward
